Subscriptions Please

This would have been a game for the 2022 Heritage Game Jam organised by the Sagakaya team. 

Unfortunately, this year our group was unable to finish in time but this page is up to sort of explain what was intended!

The theme for this year's game jam is 'Renewal', and our take on that was quite a literal one - it was going to be a game heavily inspired by 'Papers Please' in which players navigate a person's bills and subscriptions. Some of these were meant literally, and some were metaphorical. 

Some subscriptions would be a Ketflix subscription, and others would be the maintenance of a piano that you had purchased for your child in a previous stage.

The idea was to show how our lives could be condensed into the things that we purchased for ourselves and for our family. That theme of renewal was both literal in the renewal of subscriptions, but also more figurative in that we were renewing the bonds we made with each other and with the things we consumed. 

Unfortunately, due to a few too many sudden hiccups in our schedules, we were unable to deliver this year.
